Tina from Blue Moon fell in love with Targhee sheep and their crazy good wool years and years ago when she had loads of spinning time. It is as much a joy to spin as it is to knit. It's so lofty that you expect it to just float away and it seriously could with the amount of elasticity it has. It might not be ultra soft like a very fine merino, but it's still soft enough, and it will wear so very well.
Blue Moon's Targhee is both raised and milled domestically. Targhee is one of America's youngest breeds and is named after the National Forest where the sheep grazed in the summer. The forest was named after the Chief of the Bannock tribe of the Northern Paiute. Blue Moon loves the history the breed name holds, so why not keep it as the yarn's name.
Blue Moon took this elastic fiber and made it a cable yarn. A cabled fingering weight yarn, no less. It feels as good to knit as it does to wear. We think the possibilities with Blue Moon's super-bounce, fun-fun-fun, Tigger Targhee are endless, just endless. Blue Moon has tested it as a sock yarn. Even with no superwash it works well as a sock yarn because it's a cabled yarn. Test knitters have knit socks and washed and dried them in a dryer and they fared well. We don't recommend washing your socks this way every time, but it means is they will wear well. And with all that stretch, they are super cozy.
